Kpop is a huge industry. massive business! Millions of passionate admirers, or "Kpop stans," follow the singers known as "Kpop idols" all around the world. And their supporters are very invested! The various Kpop groups' dance performances are one of the genre's main draws. You might be surprised to learn that several Kpop stars are also really skilled modern and interpretive dancers.
Kpop, or Korean pop music, is the abbreviation. Though it began in South Korea, it is now a really worldwide phenomenon. The music itself is a mash-up of various genres, including dance, electro, rock, hip-hop, and Korean pop. And these many style characteristics can be seen in the dancing. Hip-hop, modern dance, street dance, and jazz-funk are all performed by K-pop idols.

Contemporary dance performances by some Kpop idols, who are great dancers, can be breathtaking. Jimin may be the most well-known classically trained Kpop dancer, but he's not the only one. Watch Ten and Winwin dance to the song Lovely by Billie Eilish and Khalid in the video below. When the video was aired, it swept the Kpop scene by storm because they wrote the choreography and came up with the concept themselves.
Ten and Winwin assert that viewers can read into the routine anything they choose, but they saw it as a metaphor for how evil forces in the world can corrupt something good. Both on its own merits and as a piece of Kpop, the choreography is a hauntingly lovely one.
Popular culture has sometimes derided Kpop idols as being flimsy or manufactured, but this video and others like it are starting to change that. When you witness a performance like this, it's difficult to discount the enormous skill of Kpop idols!
